Black Conservative Federation Hosts Trump Inauguration Celebration
The Black Conservative Federation (BCF) continues to play a pivotal role in advancing conservative values and leadership within the Black community. This commitment was on full display at the Legacy of Freedom Ball, held on January 19 at the Arena Stage in Washington, D.C., celebrating President-elect Donald Trump’s election victory and upcoming inauguration.
A Night of Influence and Inspiration
As reported by Juliette Fairley in The Epoch Times, the event brought together over 500 attendees, including business owners, elected officials, political candidates, lobbyists, and donors. Distinguished guests included Reps. Burgess Owens (R-Utah) and Byron Donalds (R-Fla.), as well as Virginia Lt. Gov. Winsome Sears. The Mississippi Valley State University (MVSU) brass band provided entertainment, creating a celebratory yet purposeful atmosphere.
BCF’s Role in Promoting Conservative Values
BCF has established itself as a national leader in promoting conservative principles, especially in Black communities. In 2023, President Trump’s speech at BCF’s South Carolina gala further underscored the organization’s growing influence. During the Freedom Ball, Rep. Burgess Owens emphasized the importance of education as a national security priority and praised Trump’s policies on border security, economic growth, and inflation reduction.
Rep. Byron Donalds echoed these sentiments, stating, “If [Trump] builds a great economy and secures the nation, it will give us what we need to be exceptional like we are.” These remarks reflect BCF’s mission to empower Black conservatives through policy advocacy, leadership development, and community engagement.
Economic and Leadership Opportunities Through BCF
Attendees at the event praised President Trump’s economic impact, particularly in relation to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Florida A&M University President Timothy Beard highlighted Trump’s 2019 commitment of $255 million in annual funding for HBCUs, ensuring their long-term sustainability.
BCF also fosters leadership development through initiatives like the James Fellows Leadership Development Program, which prepares young Black conservatives for leadership roles in politics, business, and community organizing. The program, with a $4,500 tuition, provides funding options and sponsorship opportunities to ensure accessibility. Fellows engage in a 12-month immersive experience, covering travel, lodging for D.C. events, books, and instruction.
Black Conservative Perspectives and the Future of America First Policies
Many attendees expressed optimism about Trump’s return to office, citing his “America First” policies as a major benefit to Black Americans. Vincent Peters, a former compliance officer at SpaceX and Starlink, emphasized the need to reinvest in American priorities, stating, “America First policies ensure we’re not sending billions to other countries that could care less about America or Black Americans.”
Others, such as Karl Cureton, CEO of the Council Exchange Board of Trade, underscored the importance of workforce housing and economic opportunities under conservative leadership. Similarly, Norman Brooks, a firefighter and business owner, rejected diversity and equity initiatives (DEI), arguing that such programs benefit everyone but Black Americans.
Looking Ahead: The Future of Black Conservatism
While political analysts note that 14% of Black voters supported Trump in 2024, with 24% of Black men voting Republican, BCF remains focused on growing this movement. Through mentorship, policy advocacy, and leadership training, BCF empowers Black conservatives to take active roles in shaping the nation’s future.
